As an athletic take on the classic A1, the Audi A1 Sportback is a striking compact car. It brings sophistication and clever technology to the supermini class, and is attractively practical on the inside.
In looks, the car is undeniably an Audi. The bold front face is completed with expressive halogen headlights, and the body-coloured handles and mirror finishes blend seamlessly into the streamlined shape. Strong functionality is evident in the rear fog lights and heated door mirrors.
The interior is an inviting, immersive space in which to fully enjoy the drive. Smart black upholstery covers each comfortable seat and the soft headlining. Full electric windows, air conditioning and a heated rear windscreen add to the comfort, and the driver further benefits from the tactile three-spoke sports steering wheel.
For a more compact model, the A1 Sportback offers you a generous amount of space. Folding the rear bench down creates as much as 920 litres of load volume. There are also cup holders in the front and convenient storage compartments throughout the cabin.
There are three levels of trim: SE, Sport and S line. The impressive entry-level standard is set by SE, which comes with a glossy black 6.5-inch MMI display and DAB digital radio. Choosing Sport adds Bluetooth® connectivity and ergonomic sports seats, and a dynamic roof spoiler comes to the car with S line.
Across all equipment levels, you have four confident engine options with the A1 Sportback. With 1.0-litre, 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre variants, power and efficiency are always strong. The sprint from 0-60mph never takes more than 12 seconds. The largest engine is the diesel option, delivering 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. It also cuts CO2 emissions to as little as 92g/km, with peak fuel economy reaching 80.7mpg combined.
Amongst the wide choice of transmissions, the seven-speed S tronic is a sporty highlight. Opting for this version adds racing-inspired gearshift paddles to the steering wheel. Five-speed and six-speed manual transmissions are also available.
On each journey in the A1 Sportback, the car works hard to maximise safety and passenger protection. The original A1 received a full five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, and the Sportback continues that high standard. The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) reads the road ahead to anticipate incidents and mitigate them, with the help of secondary brake assist. The cabin is ringed by front, side and head airbags, and ISOFIX child seat attachments are fitted to the rear bench.
