Take Your BMW Abroad

The ultimate driving holiday incorporating a visit to BMW world in Munich or a family road trip to France? John Clark BMW has all the information you need for enjoying your BMW abroad this year.

Don't forget to take...

YOUR DRIVING LICENCE

A full UK license is valid in most European Countries but check online first. If you don’t have a photocard license you may be asked to produce photographic proof of ID, so we recommend you also have your passport.

THE VEHICLE REGISTRATION DOCUMENT (V5)

You may risk a hefty fine if you cannot produce your V5 document or a certified copy of it. If you drive a company car make sure you speak to your employer in plenty of time before your trip to get access to the document.

STAY SAFE

We would advise you take out Breakdown and Recovery insurance available from all insurers and motoring organisations.

All new BMWs come with 3 years Roadside Assistance covering you in the UK and Continental Europe and all Approved Used BMW’s come with 12 months Roadside Assistance also covering you in the UK and Continental Europe.

ALWAYS...

  • Adjust headlamp beams to prevent dazzle. It’s compulsory for right hand drive vehicles driven in Europe. Fit adhesive masks and adjust for extra load if needed.
  • Display a GB Sticker or modern-style number plates showing the GB Euro-symbol. They are compulsory when driving a UK-registered vehicle anywhere else in Europe.

WHERE YOU NEED A VIGNETTE

A vignette is a tax disc used in place of motorway tolls. You need to buy one before using motorways in Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
