Commercial Vehicle Innovation (CVI) is a division of the John Clark Motor Group and specialises in the manufacture of bespoke transport solutions for the disabled passenger in both the public and private sectors.
CVI is working in conjunction with VDL Kusters to develop and market a low-floor direct wheelchair accessible minibus based on the VW LT46 109bhp panel van. It is also available on the 158bhp model. The vehicle, produced in Germany and converted in Holland, is a British standard vehicle and not an import. But it is also in discussion with Iveco/Ford as an alternative base. The vehicle is easily accessible, providing excellent ramp access, no social exclusion, reduced warranty issues with the ramp and a large access aperture.
Unique Design
The Kusters vehicle is enlarged by adding a middle section to the LT46 LWB chassis. In this way, CVI creates the extended vehicle required without the excessive rear-wheel overhang typical of alternative manufacturers. This offers a much more satisfactory road stability and safety in practise, and better drive and manoeuvrability for the operator.
Customers
This new version of the LT has caused something of a stir within the industry, and CVI has secured orders from local authorities and councils. Current customers include:
Europcar operates a passenger shuttle version of the minibus and have 10 vehicles providing 24 hour service to all Europcar passengers at Heathrow Airport, ferrying passengers on the premises.
Aesthetically, the vehicle has become a flagship within CVI's customers' fleets. Its striking looks and practicality are equally matched by the quality of build. For any further information please don't hesitate to contact Mark Whittaker on 07788 469460 or e-mail mark.whittaker@c-v-i.co.uk.
