Due for release in mid-2019, the Volkswagen e-Caddy is set to provide some strong competition for the Renault Kangoo ZE and the Nissan e-NV200. This all-electric version of the popular fuel-powered minivan will initially be available in long wheelbase (LWB) form.
This e-Caddy’s compact dimensions make it ideal for city driving and parking, while an ergonomic driving position provides excellent forward visibility. Both seats are comfortable and adjustable, and as the drive, you’ll be able to calibrate the steering wheel too, making it easy to establish the ideal position. The vehicle features 90-degree-opening rear doors and a side sliding door, allowing for easy loading, and possesses a payload of 63kg with a load capacity of 4,200 litres.
The e-Caddy is powered by a 38.8kWH battery that produces 109bhp and 220Nm of torque. This enables it to go from 0-60mph in less than 13 seconds and achieve a top speed of 99mph. A maximum range of 160 miles, meanwhile, ensures that you can have a productive day with multiple drops without needing to recharge. A full charge is expected to take around five hours using a standard three-pin power source, while a faster charging, 40kW power source should get the battery from zero to 80% capacity in roughly 50 minutes.
A comprehensive range of protective technology is included on the Volkswagen e-Caddy as standard. Safety features such as side and curtain airbags are there to help prevent injury in a collision, while Emergency City Braking (ECB) continually monitors for potential collisions, applying braking pressure where necessary in order to prevent low-speed impact. Also included is Front Assist, which scans the space ahead of the e-Caddy and initiates the brakes if a vehicle – or any other object – is deemed to be too close.
