First unveiled in 2006 the Nissan Qashqai brought a solid, reliable family car to the market. Designed and built right here in the U.K. the Nissan Qashqai is a competitive addition to what is an incredibly stacked class. It’s no surprise with this unique blend of practicality, style, and refinement that it is one of the most popular cars in the Nissan fleet.

While the Qashqai has the appearance of does give it a SUV feel, it is a bit smaller than your average. There are many advantages to this though. Its size and shape allow it to offer the practicality of an SUV with ample storage space while being nimble and offering the manoeuvrability of a supermini. You could call it a small SUV.

Why Should I Buy a Used Nissan Qashqai?

There are no shortage of reasons to upgrade your commute with a Nissan Qashqai. From its attractive model shape to the many driver enhancing features it brings, the Qashqai is a wonderful addition to Nissan’s lineup.

First up it offers an excellent usable space that includes a whole host of usable space in the cabin that is further complemented by a generous 410-litre boot. While this is a little behind leading SUVs it is fantastic for the size of this car. You can also fit two additional seats in the back. They are fairly compact but will work for small children or adults if you are not travelling too far.

Another reason you will want to look at the Qashqai is its solid safety scores. It achieved the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test and took 88% for adults, 83% for children, 69% pedestrians, and 79% for safety assist.

Interior cabin quality is also high in the Qashqai. It extrudes a luxurious feel that will be welcomed and is typically not seen in smaller cars. Ride quality is also incredibly smooth, even over uneven roads, potholes, or over speed bumps. The premium suspension helps with this too. An excellent example of the clever engineering we have come to expect from Nissan.

There is also an excellent range of diesel and petrol engines to choose from. Options include 1.6 and 2.0-litre models for the petrol and a 1.5-litre option if you would prefer a diesel. The smaller petrol model performs better in urban environments than it will on a motorway. There is always the 2.0 litre model if you are looking for something with a bit more kick to it. All options come fitted with automatic gearboxes.

Which Used Nissan Qashqai Should I Buy?

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting a Nissan Qashqai to buy. Options start out with the Visia trim, which comes surprisingly well kitted out for a base level model. This features 16” alloys, six airbags, ABS with brake assist and EBD, Bluetooth, electrically adjustable door mirrors, an electronic stability program, ISOFIX safety points, manual air conditioning with a pollen filter, and a radio with MP3 player.

One tier up you have the Acenta. This trim upgrades your wheels to 17” and adds functional improvements that include cruise control with a speed limiter, dual-zone air conditioning, electrically adjustable door mirrors, Nissan Connect with a colour reversing camera, and rain-sensing wipers.

The Acenta does not do it for you? No problem there is the n-tec+. This high-end trim further enhances your Qashqai with 18” alloys, a 360 around view monitor for unrivalled vision, and a panoramic roof to take advantage of the sun with a one-touch shade if you don’t want it anymore.

At the top of the range we have the Tekna. This premium model brings a BOSE 7-speaker system and Xenon clear lens headlamps with headlamp washers.

No matter the requirements you have you will have no trouble finding a trim level to meet your requirements.

What Should I Look Out for When Buying a Nissan Qashqai?

Like any used car you are looking to buy, checking out your used Nissan is in good condition is vital in ensuring you have the benefit of it for many years to come. But what type of checks should you go through when looking at your Qashqai?

Begin with an external inspection. Look for any obvious faults such as rust on the body, particularly around wheel arches or near the undercarriage. Also keep an eye out for any poorly repaired bodywork this could be a sign of previous issues that may not have been resolved properly.

Check the suspension from the outside of the car by pushing down on the rear of the car. If the car bounces more than twice you likely have a problem with the suspension.

You should also take a look at the tyres. Tyres actually have markers inside to show if the tread is at a sufficient level or not. You can also place a 20 pence coin into the tread as a quick test.

Also keep an eye on how well paint matches across the body as this can also be a sign of repair work.

Next, take it out for a test drive, ideally from the engine being cool. Take a moment to look at the quality of the interior as it can offer insight to how the previous owner treated it. Test all electronics to see if there are any faults. Once you are on the go check that the car handles well and is appropriate for how you drive. If the previous owner is in the car with you make sure they are not making too much noise hiding any unexpected noises the car makes.

All in all, if you are vigilant when checking your new car you will be well on your way to a fantastic used Nissan Qashqai.
