John Clark started business in Aberdeen over 30 years ago with his Lothian Sports car dealership. This business dealt in the sale of used Lotus and Reliant Scimitar sports cars.

The business had a distinctive family-feel to it as John Clark worked alongside his wife until their two children came along. Christopher and Victoria are also now both actively involved in the senior management of the Group business.

John Clark grew up passionate about cars, and in particular Motorsport. He had a very competitive personality and made it his ambition to one day own a car business.

He wanted to manage a business that offered high standards of customer service and excellence beyond any provided at the time. John Clark entered Motorsport at BTTC level and has won many trophies during his lifelong affair with motor racing. He currently partakes in historic motor racing worldwide and enjoys excellent success here too.

The John Clark business took off with the appointment of its first new car franchise, a BMW dealership in 1986. The Group then continued to expand in tandem with the North Sea Oil industry which established itself around the same time.

The Group’s rapid expansion saw it acquire many more car dealerships which included: Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, SEAT, MINI, BMW Motorcycles and Volkswagen light commercial vehicles.

It has since won more than 20 UK awards and accolades for customer service and outstanding levels of business standards for business performance. The group also enjoys state-of-the-art premises and continues to achieve recognition for exceptional customer satisfaction.

John Clark is the no. 3 independent Motor Group in Scotland, comprising 14 car dealerships, 3 light commercial dealerships, 3 online car sales businesses and 3 accident repair centres.

The group continues to expand having gained 3 additional businesses during 2008. They have acquired one of the first standalone MINI showrooms in the UK, which is based in Dundee, and are at present restructuring their BMW showroom in that location.

The group dominate the East coast of Scotland, with multiple franchises based in Aberdeen, Dundee, Fife and Edinburgh.
