The BMW 5 Series Enters a New Era

At the BMW Group Annual Conference 2023 Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, announced further details of the highly anticipated new BMW 5 Series model range. This included the news that it will be available as an all electric BMW M Performance model.

The new model will be more dynamic than ever and has a fresh interpretation of the signature elegant sporting design. Alongside this will be the BMW Curved Display which houses BMW Operating System 8.5, offering peak performance and connectivity. The flexible powertrain architecture of the model means that it can be offered in all electric and plug in hybrid variants alongside the traditional high powered petrol and diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology.

“The all-electric BMW i4 M50 shows how BMW blends dynamic performance and electric mobility to perfection,” said Zipse. “It was the best-selling BMW M model worldwide in 2022. A fully electric Performance model from BMW M GmbH will also be included in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan line-up.”

Over the course of the last 50 years, the BMW 5 Series has had seven model generations and has seen over ten million models leave the production line. The new generation will be built entirely at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria which is the group’s largest manufacturing site in Europe. The production of the new BMW 5 Series will coincide with the site’s 50th anniversary of manufacturing BMW models.

The worldwide launch of the BMW 5 Series Sedan will begin in October 2023 with the BMW i5 Sedan following in Spring 2024.
