EBMWRIDERS 2010 - success in Spain

BMW fans travelled from far and wide to Spain last weekend to attend the eighth edition of the EBMWRIDERS event, which has established itself as the best biker meeting in south-western Europe. This customer-focussed activity was originally developed to showcase the world of BMW to both existing and potential owners, but has since grown to become the main event on the Spanish BMW riders’ calendar.

The new location of the EBMWRIDERS event, which took place over the weekend of 10 and 12 September in Formigal, helped make this annual biker meeting a great place to visit and meet up with BMW motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Spain and further afield. Formigal is one of the most popular ski resorts in Spain and because it is located very close to the French border, it is easy for riders to journey to from all over Europe. With great weather promised for the weekend, and many new activities on offer, more than 2,500 BMW fans travelled to Aragón from many different parts of Spain, as well as from the neighbouring countries, such as France and Portugal. A comprehensive programme of indoor and outdoor customer activities was planned, including guided tours, test-rides of all the latest BMW Motorrad models, off-road experiences, stunt shows from Narcis Roca on the F 800 R, various talks and presentations from inspirational motorcycle riders; and much more. More than 600 riders registered for test rides and many participants enjoyed exploring some spectacular guided routes to places such as Biescas, Ainsa, Lourdes Sanctuary, Lac de Bious Ártigues, Ordesa national Park and Garganta de Esaclar. The big EBMWRIDERS marquee was the meeting point for the many different conferences that had been planned, as well as an ‘Oktoberfest’ party with live music, beer and German food, which continued late into the Saturday night.

Riders of ‘classic’ BMW motorcycles were invited to take part in a Snail Race, where contestants were tasked with covering a set distance in the slowest time possible without putting any feet on the floor. Basically, the one who took the longest to get to the finish line would be the winner – so perfect balance and clutch control were the essential ingredients for success in this activity… As well as all the BMW machines, rider clothing and accessories on display, visitors were also able to see the 2011 Husqvarna model range. Other activities kept participants entertained and active all weekend, including a Trek bicycles test, where contestants could take the mountain bikes up in a ski chairlift with them, and then choose a track to ride back down again, dependant on their ability level. Other attractions that were extremely popular at this year’s EBMWR were karting, roller ball and a wind tunnel where you could literally float on air.

With a new location, additional activities and an evening party to remember, the EBMWR10 event in north-eastern Spain was a highlight for all the visitors who attended from across Spain, France and Portugal. Now firmly established as the best rider meeting in Spain, EBMWRIDERS 2011 will be an essential date for all motorcycle enthusiasts.
