The Silverstone 500 is a true test on the British GT circuit as a three-hour endurance event which requires multiple pit stops and multiple driver changes with the right strategy to come out on top.
Jonny Adam had a successful start to the weekend, finishing P3 in overall qualifying, setting him and teammate Giacomo Petrobelli up well for the race on Sunday. Whilst pitstops started for teams at around 30 minutes, the introduction of a Full Course Yellow and Safety car period slowed the progress that the team were making as Jonny had swapped in just before the FCY.
With less than 65 minutes left in the race, Blackthorn strategically pitted late which should have given them an advantage but after a Safety car period the pit exit incorrectly remained closed and Jonny lost around 20 seconds before it reopened. He then lost further time as he became stuck behind a GT4 competitor on their final Safety car lap.
However, he drove to finish overall in fourth place, an excellent result.
Talking about the race on Instagram, Jonny said: “It was a relentless 3 hours, and Silverstone delivered another grandstand race. Great to score P4, and bring home solid points for our championship challenge.”
He now looks ahead to Oulton Park, which takes place 23rd-26th May and encompasses rounds 3 and 4, we wish him luck as he prepares with his team!
