Esteban Ocon celebrated his 100th Formula 1 race with a fifth place finish, taking home 10 points for the Alpine team, and his highest position of the season. Fernando Alonso had a good race too, finishing in 10th place after a back row start and taking home one point too.

Alonso’s race was a little more difficult, he faced an electrical issue which forced him to retire from the Sprint during the formation lap had ended up starting from P19, but then went on to finish with points. It’s the second time this season that Alonso has progressed from the final row to points, with the first time being back in Spain in May.

He said, “Ultimately, only one point from this race feels a little bit of a shame for me, but we can be very happy with our overall pace and performance as a team this weekend.”

Ocon added, “It was a great way to cap off my 100th Grand Prix in Formula 1. There were some good fights on the track today, but in the end George [Russell] was too quick and fifth position was the best we could have achieved. We go home with some very good points after this weekend, moving up to eighth in the Drivers’ Championship and now level with McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship”

The team has managed to close the gap between them and fourth place McLaren, now equalling them on 81 points going into the team’s home race at the French Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.
