Gordon Mutch wins Fox Motorsport Ginetta Junior Winter Series Shoot-out

Gordon Mutch has won the inaugural Fox Motorsport Ginetta Junior Winter Series Shoot-out, which took place at Silverstone on Monday (September 29). The 15-year-old Scotsman, who lives in Lockerbie, beat strong competition from fellow finalists Nick Reeve and Ross Connolly to win a fully-supported drive with Fox in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series, worth over £6,500.

All three teenage drivers, who had no prior experience of the 100bhp Ginetta G40 Junior, completed two practice runs during the morning alongside Fox Motorsport Chief Instructor Jamie Stanley. Each was then given a 10-lap timed run on the Silverstone South Circuit during the afternoon; the winner being the fastest driver as determined by the stopwatch.

After an incredibly close battle between the trio, it was BARC Junior Saloon Car Championship race winner Mutch, whose ambition is to win the Le Mans 24 Hours, who came out on top.

The Ginetta Junior Winter Series takes place at Brands Hatch on November 12-13 with four races held over two days at the legendary Kent venue. Fox Motorsport, from Maldon, Essex, will enter the series for a second time; the team having taken a podium finish in the rookie category in 2016.

Gordon Mutch said: “It feels amazing to have won the Fox Motorsport Ginetta Junior Winter Series Shoot-out. The conditions at Silverstone were very challenging on a damp, but drying, track, the level of competition was very high and I had a lot to learn stepping into a rear-wheel-drive racing car for the first time, but it was a lot of fun. I can't thank Fox Motorsport enough for preparing a first-class car for today. I’m incredibly excited about racing the Ginetta at Brands Hatch in November and will spend the next few weeks making sure I’m as prepared as I can be for the challenge.”

Paul McNeilly, Team Principal said: “Gordon, Ross and Nick all put in strong performances today, but Gordon was ultimately the quickest driver and we’re delighted to offer him the chance to take his next step on the motor racing ladder by running him in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series. Based on what we've seen today, all three drivers clearly have bright futures in motorsport and we look forward to watching their progress over the coming seasons. The Fox Motorsport Ginetta Junior Winter Series shoot-out has been a success and we hope to do it again next year alongside our other motorsport activities.”
