JCMG Apprentice Week

This year we have welcomed 42 new Technical, Parts, and Bodyshop Apprentices who will be based in our businesses across Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Stirling, Elgin, and Edinburgh and it is our largest ever intake. They will receive training over the next few years, depending on their course length, at John Clark Motor Group dealerships to become fully qualified in partnership with Bosch and Skills Development Scotland.

We took our newest team to Outward Bound Loch Eil, the outdoor capital of the UK, where they were given five days of personal development activities in the Scottish Highlands to help prepare them for the workplace, teach them our company values, and what will be expected of them in their new role. They will join the 1.2 million people who have been on an Outward Bound course since 1941!

Outward Bound aims to “give young people a different experience of challenge and achievement.” This is done by providing them with authentic adventure in the natural environment which allows them to respond to challenges and uncertainty in unpredictable environments. The programmes are then delivered with specific outcomes in mind to deliver stronger and longer lasting outcomes whilst the residential aspect of the programme helps to improve engagement with learning, behaviour, and preparedness for transition into new environments.

Every year we take our apprentice intake on this trip which sees them working together to build rafts, take on a “leap of faith”, try new skills like sea kayaking, and take part in a hike with an overnight camping stay. This helps them to step out of their comfort zone and find out exactly what they are capable of which then helps them reach their full potential on site. It is something that we are incredibly passionate about.
