Congratulations to the Ecurie Ecosse team on their fantastic
performance at Rockingham where they claimed not only pole position, but also
the fastest lap & the overall race victory in their BMW Z4 GT3.
Their weekend began superbly with team members Marco Attard
& Alexander Sims combining to take pole position in Saturday's qualifying
rounds. Their aggregate lap time of two
minutes 46.786 seconds put them more than four tenths of a second ahead of their
closest rivals in qualifying.
Marco started the race & maintained the lead going into the very first turn before dropping behind Andrew Howard's Aston Martin as the lap progressed. However, he fought back & managed to regain the lead from Howard at the twenty minute mark. He kept in control of the race, pitting just before the half way mark to hand over the wheel to Sims.
Sims dropped into 2nd place, behind new leader Daniel Lloyd before passing him & eventually crossing the finish line in 1st place, roughly ten seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Marco said: “We’re really pleased. I went deep at one point and Andrew [Howard] got past me, but he returned the favour later so I was able to take advantage. Then I could hand over to Alexander and didn’t have to worry about it because he’s just the best!“
Alexander said: ” It all felt pretty good in my little bubble! Fair play to Daniel [Lloyd], he did a really good job defending so the first 20 minutes were great fun. After I got through it was pretty plain sailing, so I just got my head down and pushed on.”
Attard & Sims are now at the top of the British GT Drivers’ standings, whilst the Ecurie Ecosse team is in 2nd place in the team championship. The series resumes at Silverstone over the weekend of May 30th/31st
