John Clark OBE is Group Chairman of John Clark Motor Group which he founded back in 1976. John has a lifelong association with cars, his early motor trade experience was with manufacturers, dealers, distributors, and motorsport companies. His first dealership was Lothian Sports Cars in Edinburgh selling Lotus, Scimitar and Aston Martin vehicles. John’s early business results were achieved alongside a successful motorsports career as a BMW 323 driver. In later years he also raced successfully in the British Touring Car Championships as well as winning countless trophies in Historic Racing Championships.

Today, John oversees an ever expanding group including Audi, BMW, BMW Motorcycles, Jaguar, Land Rover, MINI, SEAT, ŠKODA, Volkswagen, Volvo, Volkswagen Commercials, Nissan, Renault, and Dacia across 37 sites which all form part of the John Clark Motor Group portfolio spread across the East of Scotland from Edinburgh through to Elgin in the north. John continues to be very involved, working hands-on, to deliver great service for all customers and providing advice to ensure the continued growth and success of the group. John was honoured in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours, being awarded an OBE.



Chris' passion for the motor industry started from an early age with an interest driven from a childhood surrounded by vehicles as a result of John Clark's longstanding involvement in the motor industry and Scottish motor racing community. Chris’ background inspired his application for a university placement at BMW.

Chris’ placement within BMW’s aftersales marketing team led to his ongoing employment with the brand where he worked for 10 years in a number of key management positions within sales, marketing, and customer service functions. Success in these roles led to Chris being employment as product manager for BMW’s 1 series and 7 series where he successfully oversaw high-profile product launches.

Chris made the move from car manufacturer to car retailer in 2007 joining the John Clark Motor Group as Business Development Director, later moving to Group Managing Director. His previous experience allowed him to build close links with manufacturers helping grow the group’s portfolio from 8 to 13 brands and staff from 600 to 1200. His responsibilities included: Implementation of the group’s growth strategy, management of all site developments and refurbishments, ownership of financial targets and responsibility for Sales, Human Resources, Training and Aftersales functions.



Alan is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Before joining the motor trade in 1991, he trained with and rose through the ranks to become a manager with a leading accountancy and audit firm.

His thirty years of motor trade experience covers a variety of accounting positions with two other dealer groups plus field management roles with two manufacturer franchises and then John Clark Motor Group.

Having initially joined us in 2006 as Group Finance Manager, Alan was promoted to become our Group Finance Director in 2013 as well as then group wide Company Secretary in 2016. His key duties include central treasury management of cash flow and vehicle funding facilities plus dealership performance reviews as well as property management and legal support services.

As the Franchise Director for our Pentland Jaguar and Land Rover businesses, Jonathan is ultimately responsible for the six Land Rover and four Jaguar businesses within our group.

A veteran of over 20 years in the motor industry working with brands such as BMW and starting his career journey as a sales executive.  Jonathan continually progresses and drives our Pentland businesses, ensuring our colleagues are not only at the top of their game, and provide the highest level of customer service.

Since his arrival some 5 years ago, Jonathan has overseen the launch of our new 'arch concept' sites in Elgin, Dundee and Edinburgh East.



Paul is ultimately responsible for our three Volkswagen dealerships located in Aberdeen, Dunfermline, and Kirkcaldy. Paul is also responsible for our Clark Commercials van operations in Edinburgh and Aberdeen along with our two Volvo businesses located in Edinburgh and Dundee.  Paul joined the John Clark Motor Group as a Brand Manager in 2006 and has been in the motor industry over 31 years, starting his journey as a trainee sales executive.

In 2015 Paul oversaw the re-development of the Kirkcaldy dealership to the latest Volkswagen Retailer Concept and in 2016 the Aberdeen re-development also took place. This ensures our customers have an extremely satisfying journey when buying and servicing their vehicles at any of our award winning dealerships.

Paul continually progresses Specialist Cars Volkswagen, ensuring that staff are not only at the top of their game, but also at the forefront of customer service, product development and that they are aware of any new technological developments and brand standards. This approach has consistently resulted in the John Clark Motor Group being recognised within the top three Volkswagen retailers in the UK.



Alan has been in the motor industry with a career spanning over 20 years starting his journey as a sales executive.

Alan joined the John Clark Motor Group as a Used Car Sales Manager with BMW Aberdeen and quickly worked his way through the ranks with brands such as BMW, Seat, Skoda and Audi.

In 2015 Alan oversaw the move of Aberdeen Audi to its new and prestigious home at Balmoral Business Park and the re-development of our sister Audi Centre in Dundee.

Alan has developed an outstanding relationship with his managers and the teams at both businesses and each centre offers a wealth of experience which lends itself to delivering the highest levels of customer satisfaction, something he is passionate about and is reflective of the brands that he oversees.


Al has been in the motor industry with a career spanning over 15 years starting his journey as a sales executive.

Al joined the John Clark Motor Group as Head of Business for Pentland Land Rover Newbridge, Edinburgh. In 2019 Al was appointed Franchise Director for the BMW, MINI and Motorrad Division. In 2020 the SEAT & Skoda businesses were added to his remit.

Al has nurtured and developed an outstanding relationship with his management team and staff alike. His experience, leadership and tenacity help deliver an outstanding customer experience for the brands he is responsible for.

2021 will be a busy year for Al who will oversee BMW Tayside move into their new state of the art dealership on Kings Cross Road.  Exciting times for BMW in the City of Discovery.

Gerry McQuillan


Gerry has been in the motor industry with a career spanning over 10 years. Gerry's career journey began as a sales executive where he quickly moved through the ranks to Sales Controller, Sales Manager, Branch Manager and Dealer Principal.

Gerry joined the John Clark Motor Group as Head of Business for Renault and Dacia and within a year had added the Nissan business to his remit. In 2021 our Motorchoice businesses in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Stirling and Perth were added to Gerry's remit.

Gerry has developed an outstanding relationship with his team who strive to deliver the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

Julie Stewart


Julie joined John Clark Motor Group over 30 years ago, beginning her career as receptionist at John Clark Aberdeen Ltd.

During her time with the group, Julie has worked in a variety of roles including, Admin, Accounts, HR, Payroll, Training & Development to name but a few. Julie has been at the forefront in developing our Employee Assistance Programme and in the last 12 months has worked with her team to create a new John Clark Recruitment site.

In January 2021 Julie was appointed Director of Human Resources and is to this day one of our groups longest serving colleagues.


Julie has been involved in the motor industry with a career spanning more than 22 years, 12 of these spent working with our Group.

Julie began her career as a Service Advisor and having completed a degree in Marketing & Business Management was moved into a Marketing Executive Role. From there Julie worked as Marketing Team Leader and Head of Dealer Marketing. Julie has a wide knowledge and understanding of the motor industry and the John Clark Motor Group. Over the years Julie has built strong relationships with our dealership teams.

In January 2021 Julie was appointed as Director of Marketing & Communications working closely with our Marketing Team and Customer Engagement Centre to deliver the group's marketing strategy for Sales and Aftersales.
