John Clark Motor Group held its first Ladies Lunch in support of Race Against Dementia on Sunday 21st January at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. The date itself holds a special meaning for the charity as it is the official Race Against Dementia Day and Lady Stewart’s birthday.
The Balmoral Hotel, located at 1 Princes Street in Edinburgh, has a proud 120-year history and is the first and only hotel in Scotland to have received a prestigious five star aware from the world-renowned Forbes Travel Guide.
Taking place in the beautiful Sir Walter Scott space, 133 guests were welcomed including guest speakers Zara Tindall MBE OLY, her husband Mike Tindall MBE, and motorsport journalist Lee McKenzie. Comedian Fred MacAulay was on hand to provide his excellent MC skills throughout the afternoon.
The afternoon began with a welcome from Vicki Barry, John Clark Motor Group’s Charity Coordinator, and was followed by guest speakers Professor Tara Spires-Jones and Dr Claire Durrant, Leading Neuroscientist and Race Against Dementia Fellow respectively.
They then introduced our guests to the Laings Hidden Gem Incentive, where each can purchase a box containing a gem in the hopes of finding the elusive blue gem. The recipient of the blue gem then wins a stunning necklace and earrings set.
Following this, guests were invited to take part in an icebreaker activity with Fred MacAulay and Mike Tindall where they were given the chance to win a gorgeous pendant necklace that was kindly donated by Chisholm Hunter. Zara and Mike were then interviewed by F1 Presenter Lee McKenzie, a real highlight of the event for those who attended as Zara shared a number of heartwarming stories about growing up with Lady Stewart as her godmother.
Guests were provided with the opportunity to support RAD through a luxury gift tree and an exclusive auction hosted by distinguished auctioneer Alex Fleming. Prizes here included 4 VIP Gatehouse Tickets to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and “A Fancy Lady”, an incredibly special piece of art that was recently painted by Lady Stewart for the Lunch.
Closing remarks for the afternoon were given by Bridget Barker, Race Against Dementia CEO, and we were thrilled that she was able to join us at our first event of the year in support of the charity.
We want to take the opportunity to thank those who donated prizes, The Balmoral Hotel for their incredible hospitality, Laings for loaning the beautiful jewellery worn by Zara, and Finlay and Co for the generous gift of sunglasses for Zara, Mike, and Lee.
