The Volkswagen e-Golf has met with widespread critical acclaim. This is an electric vehicle that features the best attributes of its standard fuel-powered sibling while adding even greater efficiency.
One of the most appealing things about the e-Golf is that it looks like its fuel counterpart. That is to say, there are no futuristic aesthetics that can quickly date it. This smart-looking hatchback is fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels that not only attract attention but deliver enhanced efficiency. It’s also compact enough to handle city driving and slotting into small parking spaces easily, while managing to seat five in comfort.
Inside, careful attention has been paid to the details: soft upholstery, innovative infotainment and plenty of space for all.
The car’s fully-electric engine delivers 135bhp, 290Nm of torque and whisks you from 0-60mph in approximately 9.4 seconds. Of course, there’s no need for fuel, which means that the e-Golf produces no CO2 emissions whatsoever. Able to achieve a range of up to 144 miles, (WLTP), it can be charged at home or at work using a standard three-pin power source or a 7.2kW wall box, from which charging times are cut to less than five and a half hours. A rapid-charging unit, meanwhile, delivers a full capacity in less than an hour.
The e-Golf features an eight-inch touchscreen navigation system to help you find the quickest route to your destination, as well as Car-Net, which connects you to a wide range of services such as MirrorLink enabled apps. Moreover, this intelligent hatch comes with a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and a host of protective features. These include a Driver Alert System, which closely monitors driver attentiveness and produces visual and audio warnings whenever it’s time to take a break.
