Due for release before the end of 2019, the Volvo S90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ensures that this already much-admired saloon is even more efficient. Look out, too, for an all-electric (EV) version, which is expected to arrive in 2021/22.
The stylish and sleek S90 is as fine a choice for families as it is for go-getting executives. Its streamlined profile is complemented by the unique Volvo LED lighting signature and striking alloy wheel designs, while balance proportions give it a sense of poise out on the road.
Inside, exquisite Swedish craftsmanship comes to the fore, with every detail finished perfectly to create a luxurious environment. Contoured seats provide comfort and support in equal measure, while the ergonomically designed cockpit ensures you remain in command.
This S90 variant is installed with a 2.0-litre 299bhp petrol engine, which is teamed with an 86bhp electric motor. This plug-in hybrid combination delivers 400Nm of torque, sprinting from 0-60mph in under five seconds and reaching a top speed of 155mph. Fuel-consumption figures haven’t been finalised yet, but it is known that this PHEV engine produces CO2 emissions from just 49g/km. In EV mode, the car can cover up to 28 miles, and recharge times take no more than five hours using a 240v charger.
Audio entertainment is provided by a ten-speaker Sensus Connect System that features DAB radio, and can be controlled via the nine-inch touchscreen. A satellite navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity are also included as standard, enabling you to safely make and receive phone calls, with your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times. Among the S90 hybrid’s wide range of protective features is City Safety, which pre-empts and prevents low-speed collisions.
