Following in the footsteps of the Niro family, Sorento, and Ceed, the EV9 continues Kia’s winning streak at the Carbuyer Awards. Carbuyer’s annual awards evaluate every car available in the UK, recognising the best in various categories for both new and used vehicles. Key factors such as running costs, practicality, performance, and value for money are all considered to determine the winners across several major segments.
Kia is no newcomer to success at the Carbuyer Awards, having received numerous accolades in past years. In 2023, the Niro family took home ‘Best Small Family Car’, ‘Best Hybrid’, and the coveted ‘Car of the Year’ award. In 2022, Sorento, Ceed, and Niro PHEV earned top honours, while Sorento claimed the overall ‘Car of the Year’ award in 2021—a title the Niro would go on to win in 2023.
“Kia’s impressive ascension continues with this Kia EV9 seven-seat luxury electric SUV. We love its striking design, which blends blocky shapes with contemporary twists, and it stacks up just as well when you get inside," said Carbuyer Editor Paul Barker. "A six-seat layout with individual seats is a clever optional extra, and everything feels upmarket – you’d never know a lot of its materials are recycled or made from bioplastic. Single and dual motor versions are offered, and its 99kWh battery and 800-volt charging tech mean public charging stops are speedy affairs.”
Since its debut in 2023, the EV9 has quickly earned accolades, including ‘2024 UK Car of the Year’ and ‘2024 World Car of the Year’, along with multiple awards from leading UK and international publications. As Kia’s largest EV to date, the EV9 is the second model launched in the UK under Kia’s ‘Plan S’ strategy, which aims to bring 15 EVs to the global market by 2027, starting with the EV6 in 2021 and now with the newly launched EV3.
