The new Range Rover Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) offers style, durability and luxuriousness, not to mention super-low CO2 emissions that make driving this model cleaner than ever. It was introduced in 2018 as a brand new car option in Land Rover's range of impressive and iconic passenger cars.

Design

The impressive Range Rover PHEV possesses a raised ride height, is fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels and sports an attractive honeycomb grille which is where the car’s charging port has been cleverly hidden.

The Range Rover electric hybrid is built on the mixed-metal Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) which provides a 50% stiffer body and offers engineering enhancements that contribute to a 24% improvement in noise transmission.

A five-door body provides easy access for rear-row passengers and there’s more than enough room for five, thanks to wide, supportive and very comfortable seat positions. With all seats in place, the car features a 479-litre boot space, with rear seats folded, this capacity rises to an impressive 1,843 litres.

Technology

A 19-speaker sound system is included as standard on the Range Rover Hybrid, as is a 13.1-inch touchscreen which houses the Pivi Pro system, satellite navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Elsewhere around the cabin there's active noise cancellation to eliminate unwanted noises, distractions, and vibrations which is delivered via a world-first headrest speaker that creates an individual quiet zone for you and your passengers.

The vehicle is also installed with a wide range of safety technology which contributes to its outstanding five star safety rating from independent testers Euro NCAP. This comes from features such as emergency braking, blind spot assist, driver condition response, lane keep assist, a front and rear parking aid with park assist, a rear collision monitor, traffic sign recognition, and an adaptive speed limiter.

Performance

The power of the new Range Rover hybrid comes from its 3.0 litre petrol engine in combination with a 38kWh battery for a total power output of 460HP.

The electric motor provides instant torque to the rear wheel steering when you press down on the accelerator which, in turn, helps to boost fuel economy and the lithium ion battery is designed to outlast the vehicle itself and provide thousands of miles of journeys. Lifting your foot off the accelerator tells the regenerative braking system to kick in which comfortably slows the vehicle down and converts any generated power back into power that the battery can use.

As an electric hybrid you can choose to drive in full electric mode, only using the all electric range up to 75 miles, making it perfect for the school run or your commute to and from work with zero tailpipe emissions. The EV range can be recharged at a home charger up to 7kW in 5hours, or to 80% at a rapid DC charging point up to 50kW in just 40 minutes.

Choosing a partially electric vehicle doesn't affect the car's ability to perform as you would expect a Range Rover to. Land Rover's engineers have ensure that you can still utilise a wading depth up to 900mm and towing capacity up to 3000kg, allowing you to drive in exactly the same conditions as you would normally.

As well as this, real world range and fuel consumption figures show that you can expect a combined fuel consumption figure up to 376.6mpg, a feat which few cars would be able to boast alongside such practicality.

It is worth noting, however, that the plug in hybrid model is available on the standard wheelbase and the long wheelbase, but not currently on the long wheelbase with seven seats.
