Franco Colapinto burst onto the Formula One scene during the 2024 season, stepping into the Williams Racing lineup for the final nine rounds after replacing Logan Sargeant. Despite his rookie status, Franco showed maturity and skill beyond his years, earning points in two of his first four races and catching the eye of fans and teams alike.
Now, with Alpine securing his services, Franco embarks on a new journey to further develop his talent while contributing to Alpine’s growing ambitions in Formula One.
As Test and Reserve Driver, Franco Colapinto will support Alpine’s 2025 campaign by attending several Grands Prix, contributing to the team’s development efforts through simulator work at the Enstone headquarters, and participating in the Testing of Previous Cars Programme (TPC) alongside Paul Aron and Ryō Hirakawa. Additionally, he will act as a reserve driver for Alpine’s main lineup of Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan, ensuring he remains race-ready while honing his skills for future opportunities.
Colapinto expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude in his first comments as an Alpine driver: “I am super excited to have the opportunity to join BWT Alpine Formula One Team. First of all, I want to say thank you to Williams for all their support from the moment I joined the Academy until the last race in Abu Dhabi. They turned my dream of racing in Formula One into reality, and I will always be grateful for that.”
Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s Executive Advisor, shed light on the decision: “Franco is among the best young talents in motorsport right now. His performances last year caught many, including me, by surprise. We are very pleased to secure Franco’s services. His signing means we have a great pool of young drivers to develop for future success.”
Alpine’s driver lineup for 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in Formula One. With experienced drivers Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan leading the charge, and a reserve pool featuring Franco Colapinto, Paul Aron, and Ryō Hirakawa, the team is investing heavily in both present performance and future success.
