After scoring double points again in Hungary at the weekend, the BWT Alpine F1 Team enters the summer break in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. They are currently four points ahead of fifth place McLaren.
Both drivers executed a one-stop Medium to Hard strategy with Alonso making his sole pit-stop on lap 21 and Ocon followed suit two laps later. They then both had to have patience to make sure the one-stop method would work all the way to the flag.
Ocon added “We can be happy to score points with both cars today and that’s always a positive especially as we go into the season break. I don’t think we quite maximised our potential during the race and we’ll discuss as a team what we can do to improve.”
It was a hard 70 lap race in Budapest and the team swapped positions in lap 41, bringing Alonso into eighth and Ocon into ninth which they held until the chequered flag.
Otmar Szafnauer, Team Principal said “After scoring six points from today’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the team remains in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship as we head into the summer break. That in itself is a great achievement and gives us a real focus to push on and attack the remainder of the year when we head to Belgium next month.”
The summer break takes us through to the end of August, with the Belgian Grand Prix taking place on August 26th-28th.
