A disappointing result came in from Monza at the weekend which saw the Alpine F1 team come away without any points as Esteban Ocon finished in 11th whilst Alonso was forced to retire on lap 31 due to a suspected water pressure issue.
Ocon was disheartened to just miss out on points in 11th place, saying “It was a tricky race today and obviously it’s disappointing to finish just one position away from the points in the end. The car was performing well, and we had good race pace, which we weren’t able to show with traffic ahead.” He then went on to add that they plan to refocus for the remaining races but is looking forward to a short break to prepare fully.
Alonso was much more hopeful, having started in P6 and continuing to race in the top ten until having to retire completely. He added “It was a challenging race today and we seemed to be finding it difficult to keep up with the cars ahead of us on the straights. We then had to retire the car with a suspected water pressure issue, but we still need to investigate why this happened. We were fighting inside the top ten and I was hoping we could see the chequered flag inside the points, but it wasn’t the case today.”
The Alpine F1 Team remains in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship as they prepare for the Singapore Grand Prix which takes place at the end of this month from the 30th September to the 2nd of October.
