Whilst we will go through some more of the finer aesthetic details about the new BMW 1 Series, there is big change we are very much looking forward to test drive. There has been a radical revamp which will see a rear-wheel drive replaced with a front driven axle. The next BMW 1 Series will use a variant of the UKL platform that underpins both the BMW X1 and X2 and MINI range. While that means the new model will no longer have the rear-driven balance that driving enthusiasts appreciated, BMW is more than confident that more people will enjoy the new practicality and efficiency the new platform can offer.
The new BMW 1 Series aesthetically looks to be set to become slightly taller and wider, which when combined with the extended wheelbase and absence of a propshaft will both free up more space for passengers in the back and increase boot capacity. This will be great for those of us looking to get a bit more out of our 1 Series.
Passenger experience has been cleverly thought about in the new BMW 1 Series with a new larger cabin to allow for maximum comfort. We are still very eagerly awaiting more interior specification to be released but if it will be anything like the new BMW 8 Series we will be sure it’s worth the wait.
