Good to look at, fantastic to drive, affordable to run and very well equipped, the BMW 5 Series is an extremely accomplished vehicle. This executive saloon is practical too and possesses plenty of interior space – and is available in SE and M Sport trim levels.
With room to comfortably accommodate four full-size adults, or a young family of five, this sumptuous sedan is certainly a satisfying vehicle to spend time in. Front-seat travellers are provided with heated front seats too, while automatic dual-zone air conditioning and electric front and rear windows ensure that establishing an ideal cabin climate is never an issue. Thanks to a wide tailgate aperture and low load sill allow, access to the car’s 530-litre boot is always simple.
A six-speaker audio system is included as standard, complete with CD player, DAB radio and AM/FM tuner. Also included is a 20GB hard drive, which is ideal for storing a whole host of favourite tunes. Bluetooth connectivity features too, enabling music streaming, and making it possible to place and receive hands-free calls. Also included is a 10.3-inch BMW Professional Multimedia system. This provides satellite navigation functionality, which makes for intuitive route planning, thanks to 3D mapping, real-time traffic updates and more.
Euro NCAP has awarded the 5 Series a maximum five-star crash test rating, and the vehicle comes with lots of leading-edge safety technology and driving aids. For instance, Park Distance Control makes navigating in and out of tight parking spaces a breeze, thanks to the inclusion of ultrasound sensors.
Powerful-looking yet sleekly stylish, the new BMW 5 Series is certainly a head-turning car, with its swooping roofline, smartly creased shoulder line and subtly rippled bonnet. A number of striking fixtures include lightweight 17-inch V-spoke alloy wheels, a chrome-finished tailpipe and the iconic BMW kidney grille, which features Active Air Stream (ACS). When the engine, brakes and other elements require air, ACS automatically opens the vents to allow air in, and closes them again when enough air has been circulated.
SE grades are typically fitted with a 2.0-litre 184bhp petrol engine, which produces 290Nm of torque and 0-60mph in approximately 7.6 seconds. This BMW 520d unit also manages up to 52.3mpg, while producing CO2 emissions from 124g/km. The raciest 5 Series iteration is powered by a 3.0-litre 340bhp petrol engine. Selectable with BMW 5 Series M Sport trims, this delivers a peak torque of 450Nm of torque, 0-60mph in roughly 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
