The first fully electric BMW i5 Saloon later this year, offering an electric saloon alternative to The BMW 5 Series, without the concerns of fuel consumption and emissions. A maximum range of up to 357 miles and rapid charging capability allows for long distance journeys with much more confidence.
BMW i5 Design
The design language of The New BMW i5 is unmistakable from the first glance. The kidney Iconic Glow is an instant eye-catcher, particularly at night time, with white lighting to highlight the contours. There are a selection of colours and various light alloy wheels from 19-21" to choose from, allowing you to personalise your New BMW i5. M Sport styling comes as standard, with the front and rear bumper specifically designed for improved airflow, reduced cO2 emissions and increased electric range.
BMW i5 Performance
The rear mounted electric motor in the New BMW i5 edrive40 generates a maximum output of 340hp and 400Nm (430Nm with Sport Boost or Launch Control) to the rear axle for an electrifying 0-62mph time of just 6 seconds, taking it halfway to the limited top speed of 120mph. Integral active steering includes rear wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn for greater agility at higher speed.
BMW i5 Interior
The revolutionary interior of the BMW i5 is both functional and attractive. The ambient lighting and illuminated BMW interaction bar draws attention immediately, running across the dashboard and into the door panels, with touch sensitive control panels for the climate control and various other functions. A small toggle gear selector gives the centre console a much cleaner and sophisticated look, while a new steering wheel also features touch controls for easy operation.
BMW i5 Technology
The i5 comes with some of BMW's latest technologies, including the latest version of the BMW iDrive operating system. In Car Gaming with AirConsole and YouTube video streaming are perfect entertainment opportunities while you wait for your vehicle to charge, and the new interaction bar reduces the number of buttons in the cockpit. The Technology Pack Plus is available as an option, adding Live Cockpit Professional and Head Up Display, as well as the Driving and Parking Assistant Professional, interior camera and natural interaction with gesture control. With BMW Digital Key Plus, you can use your smartphone as a key for the car, and share it with as many as 5 people.
BMW i5 Electric Models
The electric saloon variant of The New BMW 5 Series has an electric range of up to 357 miles, with the electric powertrain using the same battery pack found in the New BMW M60 xDrive. Charging times for the BMW i5 depend on the output of the charger. The fastest option is a 205kW DC charger, which can go from 10% to 80% in only half an hour. An 11kW home charger takes around 8 hours, so is best used overnight, while an AC charging station halfs this time. You have access to the large charging network across Europe with your BMW charging card or via the My BMW App. The option of plug in hybrid models are expected soon, with an engine alongside the electric motor.
