MG has secured an impressive trio of wins at the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2026, with three models recognised as the best in their respective categories:
MG4 EV Urban – Best Electric Small Car
MG HS PHEV – Best Hybrid Family SUV
MGS9 PHEV – Best Hybrid 7-Seat SUV
The What Car? experts assessed the latest hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles across 15 categories, using the results of extensive real-world testing.
David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, said:

Launched in March 2026, the MG4 EV Urban has already made a significant impact. Its combination of affordability, efficiency, performance and generous interior space helped it take the title of Best Electric Small Car.
Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, described it as “a compact car that’s as accommodating as it is keenly priced,” also praising its accurate steering and comfortable ride.
Available in Comfort and Premium trim levels, the MG4 EV Urban offers a choice of standard and long-range batteries, delivering between 201 and 258 miles of WLTP combined range.
Prices start from £23,495.
The MG HS PHEV retained its title as Best Hybrid Family SUV for the second consecutive year, beating strong competition in its category.
One of the UK’s bestselling plug-in hybrids, the MG HS PHEV combines an electric-only range of up to 75 miles with a spacious, refined interior and an impressive level of standard equipment.
Steve Huntingford praised its competitive pricing, long electric range and comfortable driving experience, describing it as “an incredibly well-rounded family SUV.”
Available in SE and Trophy trim levels, prices start from £32,495.
MGS9 PHEV – Best Hybrid 7-Seat SUV
MG’s first large seven-seat SUV has gone straight to the top of its class, with the new MGS9 PHEV named Best Hybrid 7-Seat SUV shortly after its UK launch.
The MGS9 PHEV offers an electric-only range of up to 62 miles, making it well suited to everyday journeys. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine provides additional flexibility for longer trips.
Inside, three spacious rows provide seating for seven. With the third row folded, the MGS9 PHEV offers a generous 1,026 litres of luggage capacity.
Steve Huntingford highlighted its outstanding value, genuine seven-seat practicality, smart interior and refined cruising experience.
The MGS9 PHEV is available in Comfort and Premium trim levels, with prices starting from £34,210.
