Škoda premiered the All-New Škoda Superb in Dolní Břežany, Czech Republic, at the beginning of November. Škoda Auto CEO Klas Zellmer, alongside Board Members Martin Jahn and Johannes Neft, and Head of Škoda Design Oliver Stefani were there to present the fourth generation Škoda Superb to the world.
As with previous generations, customers will be able to choose from a larger estate model or a traditional hatchback depending on where their needs lie. It builds on the strengths of its predecessor and offers even more sophisticated design, more space and comfort, and state of the art technology.
Several small tweaks to the exterior have improved aerodynamics and the new Škoda Superb now delivers a cd value of 0.23 for the hatchback and 0.25 for the estate, reductions of 10% and 15% respectively. Increases in the length and height have given rise to better interior dimensions and a boot capacity of 645 litres in the hatchback and 690 litres in the estate.
Inside, new Ergo seats with ten pneumatically controlled massage cushions are available whilst Škoda Smart Dials combine haptic and digital features to provide quick and easy access to many of the vehicle features and functions. The new Škoda Superb now features a free standing infotainment display which measures up to 13 inches and is matched, for the first time, with an optionally available head up display as a complement to the 10 inch Virtual Cockpit.
All textiles in the Škoda Superb are made from 100% recycled materials as the brand continues a focus on sustainability.
The sustainability focus is also reflected in the six versatile, modern, and highly efficient powertrain options. These now include a 1.5 litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, which is a first for the flagship model, and a latest-generation plug in hybrid model. Elsewhere there are two 2.0 TSI petrol engines and two 2.0 TDI diesel engines to finish up the range.
Speaking about the new model, Klaus Zellmer said: "The Superb has been the standard-bearer of Škoda’s ICE range for more than 20 years. In its fourth generation it will continue to be just that, offering an even more refined, sculptural design, outstanding spaciousness and cutting-edge technology. Further powertrain optimisations and improved aerodynamics make for even greater efficiency. We have reconstructed the plug-in hybrid powertrain from scratch, and it now offers an all-electric range of more than 100 kilometres. The completely new interior is even more ergonomic and features an exemplary amount of sustainable materials. Last but not least, we will continue to offer the Superb as a hatchback and a Combi estate version, perfectly reflecting our customer focus."
