All-New Volkswagen Passat on Final Test Drives

All-New Volkswagen Passat Variant on the road

The All-New Volkswagen Passat Variant will have its world premier at the end of the month. Ahead of that, Volkswagen has published the first advanced details of the next generation of Passat. This is the ninth generation of one of the world's most successful mid-size cars, with over 50 years of history, and more than 30 million units sold.

On designing the all-new Passat Variant, Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Development commented: “With the all-new Passat, we have placed great importance on high ride and travel comfort that customers will feel immediately. Among other things, this is ensured by the longer wheelbase and the new adaptive chassis control with two-valve shock absorbers. At the same time, our new display and operating concept is very intuitive. Climate-controlled massage seats illustrate our premium standard in the interior.”

The overall comfort and quality have been improved with the use of high-grade materials and effective noise insulation alongside new interior architecture which has been directly developed in response to Volkswagen customer feedback.

The new infotainment system is 12.9 inches as standard and there will be options to upgrade to a larger 15-inch system across the range. This can be utilised with the optional head up display which projects information onto the windscreen and the multifunction controls on the steering wheels.

This generation of Passat is also larger than its predecessor with an additional 14cm in length allowing for a 5cm legroom gain for rear passengers. The luggage capacity is also increased by 40 litres to a total of 690 litres when loaded to the height of the rear seat backrests and by 140 litres with the rear bench folded down.

New IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights will be fitted to the new model in premium specifications which gives them a flatter headlight with a new high-performance ain beam with a range of around 500 metres. At the rear the new model has a continuous LED strip for the tail light clusters.

You will still be able to choose from a range of engines in the new Volkswagen Passat including turbodiesel (TDI), turbocharged petrol (TSI), mild hybrid turbocharged petrol (eTSI), and plug in hybrid systems (eHybrid). In plug in hybrid models the all electric range has been increased and AC charging will be faster in all eHybrid versions alongside DC charging, available for the first time.
