The new Volkswagen Touareg model range in the UK offers key engine options including a powerful diesel and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, maintaining its status as a premium SUV. The Black Edition and Final Edition trims are equipped with a 3.0-litre diesel engine, delivering 210 kW of power through an eight speed automatic gearbox and all wheel drive.
For enhanced performance, the Touareg R and R Final Edition trims feature a plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) setup that uses plug in hybrid technology to achieve a higher total output of 250 kW, also featuring an automatic speed transmission and all wheel drive, making it one of the most powerful Volkswagen models available and reinforcing the capability of the Touareg range.
Adding to this performance and capability is the optional all wheel drive steering system; at speeds up to 23 mph, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, which dramatically reduces the turning circle by more than one metre to enhance low-speed manoeuvrability. At higher speed, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front, increasing stability when changing lanes.
Furthermore, the optional air suspension allows the driver to select the desired driving experience, raising the vehicle to a ground clearance of up to 258 mm. For added everyday practicality, the system can also lower the rear of the car by 40 mm for easy loading and unloading of the boot.
