From April 18th to 27th the F1 show car with Audi Launch Livery could be viewed and was the central presence of Audi at Auto Shanghai under the motto “F1 Power made in Germany”.
The company is preparing to enter the top class of motorsport and will compete in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026 with its own factory team and power unit developed in Germany. At the show Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, said “Motorsport is an integral part of our DNA…We are convinced that our Formula 1 commitment will strengthen Audi’s sporting focus. The racing series is continuously increasing its global reach, especially among young target groups and in our most important sales market: China.”
The test bench setup and validation of measuring instruments are provided by a single-cylinder engine which ahs been tested sine the end of 2022 and the first full hybrid drivetrain unit is scheduled to be run on the test bench before the end of this year to from the basis for the future vehicle concept.
The development of the Audi Formula Racing GmbH is well underway, with 260 specialist already on board. This consists of Audi Sport and Audi employees with years of diverse experience in electric motorsport and they are joined by specialists with Formula 1 expertise who have been sourced externally to strengthen the team. The hiring of staff should be completed by the end of the year and will consist of over 300 employees.
The future of motorsport is also focussed on sustainability and Audi is taking this into serious consideration. The Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg is already CO2 neutral thanks to district heating from industrial waste heat and green electricity from hydroelectric power plants. The FIA has awarded it its 3 star environmental seal of approval, the highest distinction for environmental conservation and sustainability.
