The motorsport-inspired RS7 Sportback sits above the S7 Sportback in Audi's vehicle line-up, and builds upon the latter's exciting performance with even greater power under the bonnet. It also stands apart with various styling tweaks which leave admirers in no doubt as to the car's potential.
The RS7 shares a gently curving roofline with its fellow Sportback siblings, yet stands apart with a host of unique design details. RS body styling fits the model with enlarged air inlets, a honeycomb design grille, roof spoiler and side sill extensions, plus two gaping oval exhausts either side of the rear diffuser. RS7 badging seen at the front and rear is also evident on the high-gloss black brake callipers, which sit behind 20-inch 'seven-twin-spoke' alloys.
For the cabin Audi's design team has continued the racing theme with a flat-bottomed steering wheel and sporty aluminium-look gear shift paddles. Carbon inlays across the dashboard also feature on the gear lever housing, while at your feet there are aluminium-look pedals and a foot rest. Practicality hasn't been overlooked here either as the split-folding two-seat configuration demonstrates. It allows you to increase the 535-litre boot to a generous 1,390 litres – ample space for holding the essentials needed for everyday travel.
Keeping you engaged and entertained when on the move is an abundance of intelligent Audi technology. The firm's MMI Navigation Plus system features an electrically extending eight-inch colour display which enables you to follow simple directions to any destination. Calls can be received hands-free using the Bluetooth® interface, and you can link an iPod® to the Audi Music Interface for simple control of your own choice of music. Keeping you informed when mobile is the Driver's Information System (DIS) with a seven-inch display, as it shows infotainment details alongside trip stats, a gear change indicator and plenty more.
One of the most important pieces of technology is located under the bonnet, where the carmaker has fitted its 4.0-litre V8 TFSI quattro engine. It produces 552bhp and a superb 700Nm of torque to accelerate confidently in any gear. There are eight to work through as delivered by the smooth tiptronic gearbox, which helps the RS7 Sportback to hit 60mph from stationary in around 3.9 seconds.
The Sportback's eager performance is much more rewarding when you consider its high safety capabilities. When cornering the quattro system helps the car find plenty of traction, and keeping it pointing in the right direction is Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Anti-slip Regulation (ASR) prevents wheel-spin when accelerating, while an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) stabilises the model when slowing from high speeds.
