The SUV category has exploded in the last few years as many people opt for one in place of a family hatchback thanks to their higher driving positions and larger amounts of space inside.
Volvo say that "our SUVs give you better visibility, more confidence and help keep you and your loved ones safe."
The Volvo SUV family is made up of three options: XC90, XC60, and the XC40. These are then all available as plug in hybrid or pure electric models.
It may seem like many options but Volvo have a commitment to being carbon neutral by 2040 and only to produce pure electric new Volvo cars by 2030. As a result, they currently offer petrol and plug in hybrid or electric options for the SUV cars in their range
The Volvo XC90 is the largest model Volvo SUV available and the only Volvo car to offer a 7 seat option, making it a great choice for growing families.
It gives you a choice between the B5 petrol and B5 diesel 2.0 litre, four cylinder engines and offers all wheel drive. This is paired with an array of luxury finishes such as high quality leather seats and extra mile equipment like a blind spot information system or a data package which allows you to use your favourite apps.
Opting for the XC90 Recharge will give you a 28 and a half mile electric only range, ideal for the short journeys like the school run, emits only 34 g/km of CO2, and puts out an enormous 310HP thanks to the petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor.
The Volvo XC90 starts from £61,990 and the Volvo XC90 Recharge starts from £76,525.
The middle sibling of the Volvo SUV cars is the XC60, a mid sized luxury SUV and was named Japan's Car of the Year for 2017/18.
The XC60 has a 9.9 inch centre touchscreen that comes with Google Automotive Services as standard across the range. This is made up of Google Maps, Voice Recognition which allows you to control vehicle functions, web searches, and connected home devices. You can also use Google Automotive Services enabled apps and enjoy 4 years of data for use with in car apps and communication.
As with the XC90 it has a choice of both petrol and diesel engines for the XC60 Volvo SUV as well as two hybrid choice if you opt for the XC60 Recharge.
The XC60 Recharge has a 33 and a half mile electric only range, a little more than the XC90 Recharge, and 145HP. It's greener with as little as 23 g/km of CO2 and up to an incredible 282.1 combined mpg.
The Volvo XC60 starts from £47,460 and the Volvo XC60 Recharge starts from £56,025.
The Volvo XC40 was first introduced in 2017 as a subcompact luxury crossover SUV and is the first Volvo based on the CMA (compact modular architecture) platform that is shared with other Volvo models, Geely models, and Lynk & Co models and it is Volvo's best selling car in the UK.
It has a wide array of kit and features available across the range with standard equipment including automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, cruise control, dual zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and keyless start.
It's also been expanded into plug in hybrid and fully electric version - the Volvo XC40 Recharge. It has a 33 mile electric only range as a plug in hybrid and 258 and a half electric range as a fully electric model. It's range is quite good for an electric vehicle, with anything between 300 and 250 miles a successful option.
The Volvo XC40 starts from £35,830 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge starts from £41,150 for the plug in hybrid or £45,750 for the pure electric.
The great thing about the Volvo SUVs is their consistency for excellent equipment and their adaptability thanks to their varying sizes. Matched with their mild hybrid, plug in hybrid, and full electric engines allows you to future proof your car choice too. All of these really enhance your driving experience regardless of which model you choose.
