As part of our ongoing Sustainability Journey, John Clark Motor Group is proud to announce our continued efforts to offset carbon emissions by investing in impactful carbon credit projects.
But what exactly is a carbon offset project? A carbon offset scheme enables individuals and organizations to invest in environmental initiatives worldwide to balance their carbon footprint. These projects help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a more sustainable planet. Common types of carbon offset projects include:
After carefully researching the most effective and meaningful options, we are thrilled to confirm an investment of over £40,513 into three international projects and one local project. These initiatives align with our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality for 2024 and beyond.

Katingan Peatland Restoration
The Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystems, providing sustainable income for local communities and addressing global climate change through a solid business model.
Located in Central Kalimantan Province, the project encompasses one of Indonesia's largest intact peat swamp forests, crucial for CO2 storage, water flow stabilisation, fire prevention, and biodiversity conservation. It supports endangered species like the Bornean Orangutan and Proboscis Monkey while sustaining traditional village livelihoods such as farming, fishing, and harvesting non-timber forest products.

The Envira Amazonia Project
The Envira Amazonia Project, a VCS and CCBS-certified REDD+ initiative in Acre, Brazil, aims to protect 200,000 hectares of rainforest, mitigating deforestation through ecosystem service payments and monitoring climate, community, and biodiversity impacts.
It preserves rich biodiversity, supports ecosystem services, benefits local communities, and prevents the release of 12.6 million metric tonnes of CO2 over 10 years. Activities include agricultural training, early deforestation patrols, and alternative economic initiatives like medicinal plants and açaí commercialisation.

Solar Photovoltaic Project India
The proposed grouped project supports the implementation of grid-connected solar energy power plants in India, aiming to promote renewable energy and leveraging revenues from Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) for its execution.
The project facilitates large-scale solar power plants exporting electricity to India’s regional and national grids. With a total AC capacity of 1,207.5 MW, it displaces fossil fuel-based power, reducing GHG emissions by 2,078,589 tonnes of CO2e annually and 20,785,890 tonnes over a 10-year crediting period.
The above international projects have ensured we have offset our carbon output, but we wanted to go the extra mile and support sustainability closer to home. In order to support Scotland on its future journey towards net zero and support our local wildlife, we have invested in a tree for every colleague. The trees will be planted at Hopecarton Burn, in Peebles.
