Sutherland

Sutherland makes up a significant portion of the North Coast 500 and is often broken into two sections - north west and east. While the north west features the world-famous beaches of Achmelvich and Clachtoll, the east coast is home to the famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course.

Duncansby Head, Caithness

Caithness

Sitting on the most north-eastern corner of the route, Caithness is known as the home to John O'Groats, but has so much more to offer. You can discover the fascinating heritage of the fishing industry in Wick, or stretch your legs by trying to climb Caithness' biggest mountain, Morven.

Easter Ross

As you start to head back down south, you'll encounter Easter Ross, which offers unparalleled views across the waters to Aberdeenshire. And, from the booming oil industry in Invergordon to the world-famous Glenmorangie distillery to Tain, there are no shortage of things to experience.

Black Isle

Between you and the end of the road lies Black Isle, a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water. One of the region's great draws is its pod of resident bottle-nose dolphins, which can often be seen flocking in the Moray Firth, while it is also home to a number of historical treasures.
