STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT.
Today we headed South to the Capital for a staff in the spotlight interview of Gary Craig, who is a Sales Executive from our Pentland Land Rover Dealership in Edinburgh. Gary has worked for our Land Rover Edinburgh branch since August 2004 and has grown quite fond of the brand that he spends day in, day out presenting to customers from all over the Central Belt of Scotland. So join us as we put Gary under our spotlight and find out a bit more about his passion for all things Defender.
How long have you worked in the motor industry?
I started in the motor trade in 2014.
When did your passion for cars and indeed Land Rover in particular start?
My admiration for Land Rover has been there since I was a child and watching the Camel Trophy on television, back in the day when things like that were still being done.
It really moved up a gear when I started at Pentland Land Rover and I was "forced" to drive all of the models to get some experience with them so as I could properly present them to the public. After driving them, I knew that I loved them and was eventually "told" to drive the Defender demonstrator, as they are an acquired taste. Less than 24hrs later I was hooked on Defenders and eventually found the right ones South of the border.
What Land Rover do you own?
I bought a Land Rover 90 Hardtop, 1988 model, which is finished in gloss black (when it’s not been off road that is!)
What does your Wife think of your Defender obsession?
My wife tolerates my obsession, I suppose I could waste money on more stupid things. Right?
How long have you had your Defender and what work have you done on it?
I bought the Defender in November 2014. It has had a 2" lift fitted to increase ground clearance and now sits on 33" off road tyres. It also has a winch, rally seats , 42" LED Light Bar fitted to the roof (which is like turning the sun on during a dark night) and a raised air intake and various other items that make it look like it comes with an Action Man toy set.
Best place you've taken it?
Last Summer I took it up to a private estate near Newtonmore for a weekend of off roading & camping using the roof tent. But intend to do the North West 500 this summer and would love a trip to Le Mans one day for the 24hr.
What was your very first car?
My First car was a BMW 523… loved that vehicle!
What is your ultimate car... if you could have anything?
I have been very lucky to drive some very, very nice cars in my time. I think if money was no object, I would have a Koenisegg. But my Range Rover Evoque has just arrived, so it may need to wait a while yet!
