John Clark Motor Group and Eastern Western Motor Group Announce Volkswagen Passenger Car Business Realignment

John Clark Motor Group and Eastern Western Motor Group today jointly announce a strategic realignment of their respective Volkswagen Passenger Car businesses across Dundee, St Andrews, Dunfermline, and Kirkcaldy, as part of Volkswagen Group UK’s Ideal Network Plan.

17th December 2025

Effective 2 February 2026, the changes follow on from an ideal network plan review by Volkswagen UK which has been developed to best position the Volkswagen brand for the future across Scotland. As part of this plan, the two family-owned Groups have agreed to exchange their respective Volkswagen Passenger Car franchises in the following locations.

Under the new arrangement:

  • John Clark Motor Group will acquire the Volkswagen Passenger Car businesses in Dundee and St Andrews, currently operated by Eastern Western Motor Group. The Dundee business will then relocate to their Volkswagen Group multi-franchise site on the Kingsway which already contains Skoda, Seat and Cupra, whilst the St Andrews site will remain at its current long-established location.
  • Eastern Western Motor Group will assume responsibility for the Volkswagen Passenger Car businesses in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy, currently operated by John Clark Motor Group. The Kirkcaldy site will remain at its existing location, as will the Halbeath, Dunfermline showroom. The Dunfermline After-Sales Centre will relocate from its current location on Campbell Street to a new facility at Halbeath, next to the existing showroom. Eastern Western Motor Group will then refranchise the Volkswagen dealership at Riverside Drive, Dundee with two franchises - Honda and Chery - joining Nissan and Mazda at this location.

This realignment supports Volkswagen’s strategic objective to optimise its retail network structure, ensuring long-term sustainability, customer convenience, and enhanced service coverage across Scotland.

All employees directly affected by the transfer will move to their new respective employers under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings – Protection of Employment) Regulations, ensuring full protection of their existing employment rights. Where any changes to terms and conditions are proposed, these will be subject to consultation prior to the transfer.

Both groups are working closely with Volkswagen Group UK to ensure a smooth transition for customers and staff alike. During the transition period, it will remain business as usual at all affected Volkswagen sites.

“We have worked collaboratively with Eastern Western Motor Group and Volkswagen UK to ensure this network realignment benefits our customers and our teams,” said Chris Clark, Group Managing Director, John Clark Motor Group. “This move strengthens our long-standing partnership with Volkswagen and reinforces our commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences in Dundee and St Andrews.”

Douglas Brown, Group CEO and Chairman, Eastern Western Motor Group added: “This change aligns perfectly with Volkswagen’s Ideal Network Plan and allows us to build on our successful representation of the brand in Fife through our Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy locations. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and continuing to deliver first-class service to our customers. I am also delighted to relocate our Honda business, currently located in temporary premises on Dunsinane Avenue, and to introduce Chery to Dundee, both now taking up residence in separate showrooms at Riverside Drive, created from the space vacated by Volkswagen”

Further updates and details details will be communicated to customers and employees as the transition approaches.
