Nissan and The Ride Companion Unleash the Ultimate Mobile Podcast Studio

LONDON – Nissan has teamed up with The Ride Companion, the world’s leading mountain bike podcast, to create something extraordinary—a high-spec mobile podcast studio built into a Nissan Primastar van. This unique collaboration, executed with the expertise of UK-based specialist converter MTB Vans, has resulted in a fully equipped, off-grid content production vehicle that’s ready to hit the trails.

Designed to meet the specific needs of The Ride Companion's founders, Davi Birks and Olly Wilkins, this custom Primastar is set to revolutionise their podcasting adventures. Whether they’re heading to the rugged trails of the UK or covering national and international mountain bike races, this van ensures they can record and produce top-quality content anywhere, anytime.

Starting with a Nissan Primastar Tekna+ L1H1, the conversion was completed in just under two weeks, culminating in a sleek custom vinyl wrap by MotoShack. The van is now a true "ultimate ride companion," packed with features that make it as functional as it is cool.

Key Features:

  • Full Interior Fit-Out: The load area has been transformed into a storage and recharging hub, complete with racking for helmets, tools, equipment, and a slide-out tray for two mountain bikes. Secure shelving is included for all the necessary tech gear—cameras, mics, tripods, and lights.
  • High-Tech Connectivity: With Starlink mobile Wi-Fi, the team has high-speed, off-grid internet access wherever they go. A compact desk is attached to the bulkhead, enabling real-time research and content uploads.
  • Power and Utility: The van features a 240V power supply, multiple plug and USB sockets, and a CTEK split-charge system with a 160Ah LiFePO4 battery. A roof-mounted solar panel provides continuous trickle charging. There’s even a 25-litre water tank connected to a Worx Hydroshot pressure washer for post-ride clean-ups.
  • Off-Road Capability: Outfitted with General Grabber AT3 multi-terrain tyres and a powerful LED light bar, the Primastar is ready to tackle remote trails, ensuring the team can reach—and record from—the most challenging locations.

Davi Birks, Co-Founder of The Ride Companion, expressed their excitement: "We’re absolutely stoked to be working with Nissan on this project. This custom Primastar is a game-changer for us. Now, we can take the show to our guests, recording wherever we want. It’s the perfect ride companion for our adventures!"

Joel Aindow, Founder of MTB Vans, shared his pride in the collaboration: "It was a real pleasure to work with Nissan on this build. The quality of the Primastar made the conversion straightforward, and we’re thrilled with the final result."

David Jackson, Nissan’s Communications Director, highlighted the success of the collaboration: "This project perfectly showcases the versatility of the Nissan Primastar and how it can be customised to support an adventurous lifestyle. We’re delighted to see The Ride Companion taking this unique vehicle on the road."

The Nissan Primastar isn’t just a van—it’s a capable, roomy, and reliable workhorse, available in various configurations to meet your needs. With features like full LED front lights, an advanced cabin, and new ADAS technology, the Primastar is designed to excel in both performance and safety.
