Nissan’s design and engineering teams have worked with Arctic Trucks, a specialist in polar expedition vehicles, to prepare a special Ariya for the world-first electric expedition from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole.
Modifications of the Ariya have been kept to a minimum and keeps its original battery-electric powertrain and has Nissan’s dual-motor setup with innovative e-4ORCE all wheel drive which has been developed specifically for electrified powertrains.
The changes you will be able to see include enormous 39 inch off road tyres, fitted to ensure the Ariya can cope with the most extreme conditions and terrains it will face on its 17,000 mile adventure. It also has a custom rugged exterior fit with raised suspension and flared wheel arches to accommodate the new size of tyres alongside additional body kit.
The Ariya will set off on it’s expedition with British adventurer Chris Ramsey and his wife Julie on March 20th, conditions permitting, and is in line with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 plan. This will see the brand work on its “long-term vision to empower mobility and beyond, Nissan aims to deliver exciting vehicles and technologies that empower customer journeys and society.”
Matthew Weaver, Vice President of Nissan Design Europe, commented “With the Ariya, our team globally, poured their hearts and souls into the car and made this very special product. We designed this car with a vision that it would be fulfilling its role in many environments.”
