A nine-year-old Eilidh Shaw's dream of becoming a professional cyclist was realized when she recently joined the UAE Development Team. The 19-year-old has had a stellar season, winning twice domestically and achieving her first UCI podiums at the Tour de Feminin. Shaw has been on the team's watchlist for a while and won the Scottish national road championships last year. She also finished second behind the new junior world champion in a UK race in April, which prompted the team to recruit her.
Although Shaw only met Pridham mid-season, she was familiar with the team's reputation for nurturing young talent. “When I was racing in Europe I could see how good their style of racing was. Then when it came to being in contact with the team, everyone was super welcoming and friendly. It looks like a really nice environment to be part of and I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone. This will be my first big step in terms of cycling and it will take me to a new level and on a much bigger team. It’s a whole new challenge and there will be lots of learning but I can’t wait to get started,” she said.
Eilidh has been part of Alba Development Road Team for the past few years. This fantastic team have supported Eilidh with thorough development plans and race programmes, allowing her to show what she is capable of and grow into the rider that she is today.
Shaw's future looks promising, and she impressed the UAE Development team with her enthusiasm and cycling skills. John Clark Motor Group is excited to see where this next part of Eilidh Shaw's journey takes her and we are proud to have Eilidh as a member of our Clarkies Clan.
