On the first race day of SEAT Leon Eurocup at Monza, Thibaut Mourgues took first place and on the second, podium regular Pol Rosell claimed victory.
After two intense days in Italy, Stian Paulsen, of Stian Paulsen Racing, and Spanish driver Pol Rosell, of Baporo Motorsport are in joint first in overall standings.
On Saturday, the JSB Competition team dominated the race and ultimately the podium with Thibaut Mourgues, Julien Briche and Lucile Cypriano taking the top 3 spots respectively. It was Mourgues’ first victory in the series after an intense few hours of racing; he set a pace that was difficult to match from the outset.
Mourgues can thank a strong start for his victory, leaving the others to battle it out behind him. Lucile Cypriano, who took third, didn’t have as strong a start but made up for it by the latter stages and outraced Jordi Oriola to steal her second podium finish of the season. Oriola ultimately finished 4th and Pol Rosell, joint overall leader with Stian Paulsen, crossed the line in fifth.
The second race day at Monza saw Pol Rosell take his third victory and fourth podium finish this season with Jordi Oriola and Stian Paulsen following behind. Rosell began in front accompanied by Jordi Oriola and Shane Williams. All three provided some energetic entertainment, all battling to gain the lead. After five laps, Rosell was still proving difficult to gain ground on and a clash between Target Competition drivers, Andrina Gugger and Manu Hernandez saw the Safety Car make an appearance, then a red flag saw the SEAT Leon Eurocup drivers back on the grid as the race was restarted.
