We always knew SEAT were ahead of the curve when it came to harnessing the latest technology. So we weren't surprised to learn that one of the world's largest photo voltaic plants could be found within their very own SEAT Martorell factory near Barcelona.
The plant is adorned with around 53,000 solar panels which cover an area equivalent to 40 football fields and harnesses the natural sunlight to generate 17 KWh of energy a year. Pretty impressive.
Lets put this into perspective. The plant generates enough electricity to charge 3 million mobile phones every day for a whole year. The electricity generated is then reused within the factory and represents 6% of the total energy consumption required by Martorell. Infact, if you own a SEAT car, you may find that this clever use of solar energy played a large part in the production of your model.
This facility goes a long way to ensuring cleaner air and has cut down the annual CO2 emissions by around 4,000 tonnes. The SEAT factoriy's next goal is to reduce it's water consumption, CO2 emissions and waste generated by half compared to 2010.
