Nissan Accelerates Towards a Sustainable Future with the Launch of Its 2024 Integrated Report

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is thrilled to unveil its Integrated Report 2024, a dynamic showcase of the company’s strides towards its ambitious Ambition 2030 vision, all with sustainability at the forefront.

This inaugural report goes beyond the usual by presenting not just Nissan’s vision, strategies, business plans, and financial data, but also a comprehensive look at the company’s long-term impact on society. Nissan is on a mission to create safer, more secure communities, drive societal advancement, and play a key role in restoring nature and ecosystems. Central to this mission are two ground-breaking initiatives: the fifth-generation Nissan Green Program 2030 (NGP2030) and the Nissan Social Program 2030 (NSP2030). These programs form the backbone of Nissan’s overarching strategy, with further insights available in the newly updated Sustainability Data Book 2024.

Nissan Green Program 2030

Since launching its first mid-term environmental action plan in 2002, Nissan has been steadfast in its commitment to its environmental philosophy: "a symbiosis of people, vehicles, and nature." The latest iteration, NGP2030, zeroes in on climate change, resource dependency, and air and water quality as critical priorities. Nissan is working towards a future where global temperature rise is capped at 1.5 degrees Celsius, striving for carbon neutrality, embracing a circular economy, and minimising environmental impacts.

Key sustainability targets include:

  • Cutting per-vehicle lifecycle CO2 emissions by 30%
  • Slashing per-vehicle manufacturing CO2 emissions by 52%
  • Halving per-vehicle driving CO2 emissions for new models in Japan, the U.S., Europe, and China
  • Boosting the use of sustainable materials in major markets to 40%

Nissan Social Program 2030

NSP2030 is Nissan’s powerful social action plan, designed to elevate the company’s social initiatives and align with its Ambition 2030 vision. Focused on people, NSP2030 lays out a roadmap to positively impact society while building a truly sustainable business. The program’s six pillars—safety, quality, responsible sourcing, intellectual property, communities, and the power of employees—serve as a foundation for Nissan’s social value initiatives.

People are Nissan’s top priority, with human rights at the core of its efforts. The "power of employees" pillar is especially significant, encompassing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); employee rights; learning and development; and health and safety. Nissan is committed to creating an empowering work environment where every employee can thrive. Through various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) focusing on LGBTQ+ issues, working parents, multiculturalism, and more, Nissan champions a culture of openness and innovation.

A Sustainable Future

NGP2030 and NSP2030 are integral to Nissan’s new business plan, The Arc, which bridges the company’s current efforts with its long-term Ambition 2030 goals. Joji Tagawa, Nissan’s Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasizes the importance of collaboration with partners and stakeholders to ensure that the company’s progress benefits everyone. “Together, we must prepare for the future to make Nissan sustainable and ultimately contribute to a sustainable society,” Tagawa says, reinforcing Nissan’s corporate purpose: Driving innovation to enrich people’s lives.

As Nissan forges ahead on its path to a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world, sustainability remains at the heart of everything the company does.
