RENAULT 5

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric For Sale in Scotland

Available at Specialist Cars Renault Aberdeen

The original Renault 5 was a visionary car that sold over 5.5 million units across five continents from 1972 to1985 and was the first car to achieve fuel consumption below 5 litres/100km at 90km/h and even had an electric version available in 1974.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech is an icon reborn for the electric age. The production car is faithful to the concept car that was revealed in 2021 and the prototype quickly became the symbol of the Renault Group electric car strategy, Renaulution.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech joins other electric vehicles and hybrid models in Renault's model range including the new Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, the Megane E-Tech Electric, and the new Clio E-Tech Full Hybrid.

Renault 5 E-Tech Design

The Renault 5 E-Tech becomes the first vehicle to be built on the AmpR Small platform (CMF-B EV), a new all-electric platform that has been adapted to reduce production cost and increase vehicle efficiency and shares approximately half the components of the CMF-B platform. The platform is calibrated to allow the Renault 5 to deliver a high level of performance that is on par with its dynamic design.

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric takes design cues from three models: Renault 5 and Supercinq for their overall look, and Renault 5 Turbo for its wing extenders and attitude, sitting squarely on the road.

The front light signature features two rounded rectangles on the front bumper with a floating design of the same rectangular effect etched into the glass of the full LED headlamps. There's also 18 inch alloy wheels as standard with a range of different alloy options depending on your chosen trim level and the colourful roof trim with the deep red of the vertical rear lights and the vibrant colours of the bodywork bring to mind the original Renault 5 production model.

At 3.92m long, it is just 9cm shorter than Clio. The optimised wheelbase (2.54m) – a promise of generous interior space – with very short overhangs is just 4cm shorter than on Clio. The width of 1.77m adds to the car's on-road presence without compromising its agility on city roads. Ideally sized with its underfloor battery, it stands 1.50m tall, just 6cm higher than Clio.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will launch in five body colours: Pop Yellow, Pop Green, Artic White, Diamond Black, and Midnight Blue.

Renault 5 E-Tech Technology and Comfort

Two 10 inch openR instrument panels adorn the dashboard, one in front of the steering wheel and another in the centre console with access to more than 50 in-car apps available covering navigation music and podcasts, and entertainment. There's also built-in Google services which provides access to Google Maps and Google Assistant and wireless smartphone charging available alongside wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The car's battery packs are placed under the floor to maximise interior space for both passengers and cargo. This gives a generous interior width of 1.36m for those in the rear seats alongside 326 litres of space in the boot for anything you need to take with you. This is more than some traditional ICE-powered city cars and places the Renault 5 at the forefront of the electric city car segment.

The modern upholstery found on the seats, dashboard, and door panels is made from 100% recycled materials, further emphasising the Renault 5 as a sustainable and forward thinking model.

A heat pump maintains the thermal comfort of the cabin by working with 8kW high voltage coolant heater system to save as much energy from the battery as possible. The My Renault app can also be used to precondition the car before start-up.

Renault 5 E-Tech Performance

It is intended that the Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be available with two battery packs, although only the 52kWh capacity battery will be available at launch. Renault plans to also offer a smaller battery, 40kWh, which would have a range of 186 miles and is paired with a 90kW electric motor capable of 120hp.

The 52kWh will offer a range of 248 miles on a single charge and uses a liquid cooling system to regulate its temperature although the fluid does not circulate inside the casing but through the extruded floor for greater safety. This is paired with a 110kW motor for a power output of 150hp which will allow an acceleration from 0-62mph in under 8 seconds.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will become the first in a long line of cars that will be fitted with the new 11kW AC bidirectional charger which will feature vehicle to load for connecting a device to the vehicle battery and vehicle to grid for feeding electricity back into the grid, allowing you to save on home charging. You can also utilise DC fast charging points up to 100kW with the 52kWh battery.

The multi-link rear suspension would formerly have been reserved for vehicles further up the market but is available on the Renault 5. Advantages of a multi-link rear axle include more dynamic performance on tight corners and greater stability on wider corners, as well as improved comfort by cutting percussion noise.

To help keep you safe on every drive, there are a range of driver assistance systems available on the Renault 5, with some previously reserved for the best in the next segment up. These include active driver assist, intelligent adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking in reverse, front and rear sensors with emergency lane keeping, and rear occupant safe passenger exit.
