The Volkswagen Group is working towards becoming net carbon neutral by 2050 with their “goTOzero” environmental mission statement representing their move to a net carbon-free way of doing business. By 2030 they want to reduce the CO2 emissions of their passenger cars and light commercial vehicles by 30% per vehicle compared to 2018.
They also recognise that their responsibility starts long before the car is purchased, or even produced, and that they must therefore responsibly obtain raw materials and utilise the circular economy to limit and reduce their environmental impact.
Volskwagen also has sustainability requirements built into contracts and specifications for working with their current and new partners, continuously establishing where risks lie in their supply chain for those who work along it, and making sure that their partners meet their own sustainability ratings to protect people and the environment.
