Meet the new Audi Q5 55 TFSI e quatrro, the brand’s latest addition to its plug-in hybrid family. The new Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid exclusively merges the economic and environmental benefits of electric driving with the proficiency of quattro with ultra-technology to create a car that is categorically one of a kind.
This new Audi plug-in Q5 couples a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor. The electrified muscle enables the new Q5 hybrid to propel from 0-62mph in a mere 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 148mph. The motor and separating clutch are integrated into the seven-speed S tronic which uses ultra-technology to transfer the drive torque to the quattro drivetrain.
Quattro Permanent all-wheel drive with ultra-technology
The Q5 55 TFSI e marks the first time that the efficiency-optimized all-wheel drive with ultra-technology is used in combination with an electric motor. The ingenious quattro system actively uses sensors and continuously analysis’s driving dynamics and driver behaviour to ensure utter proficiency. The quattro all-wheel drive system is thus always ready when needed.
At low loads and sufficient coefficient of friction between the wheels and the road surface, the transmission of power to the rear wheels is deactivated. The drivetrain then functions with high efficiency as a front-wheel drive system. All-wheel drive is deactivated whenever it is not needed, but it always remains available. Fast, automatic activation of the all-wheel drive system follows a three-stage strategy: proactive, predictive and reactive. By liaising quattro drive with Audi drive select, drivers can adjust not just the character of the engine, but also the all-wheel-drive properties to suit their individual driving preferences.
More importantly, the new Audi Q5 55 e quattro can return as much as 112 miles per gallon or consume as low as 2.1 litres/100 km in the combined cycle. The Q5 will be capable of covering 26 miles on electric-only power, with a top electric-only speed of 84mph. That zero-emissions range is promised thanks to a lithium-ion battery pack with a 14.1-kWh capacity stored beneath the luggage compartment floor of the new Audi Q5 55 TFSI e quatrro. Audi estimates a combined fuel economy of 113mpg. What’s more, an empty battery takes only two and a half hours to fully charge the batteries through a 400 V/16 outlet and approximately six hours from a household socket.
The new Audi Q5 55 TFSI e offers generous list of standard equipment. LED headlights, sport seats, three-zone automatic climate control, convenience key, DIS with color display, PHEV-specific displays and 18-inch wheels in a five-arm turbine design are standard. More athletic details from the S line exterior package hone the dynamic look: S line bumpers front and rear, a diffuser with a double clasp at the rear and a unique design in the Singleframe grille with various elements in dark chrome.
