Exterior design

At 4.19m long with short overhangs and wide shoulders, the new Audi Q2 has a compact and sporty stance. An octagonal single-frame front grille, underbody protection and elevated driving position matched with a flat, stretched cabin and coupe roofline help give the Q2 its crossover appearance. The side profile of the car displays strong lines with a unique, sculptured shoulder line.

The new Audi Q2 is available in a choice of 12 exterior colours, including a new eye-catching Coral orange metallic paint. An important design feature of the Q2 is a unique new contrast C-pillar blade. This helps accentuate the coupe character of the roofline and adds a further customisation option of the car. C-pillar colours include Manhattan grey, Ice silver, Ibis white or Titanium grey.

Another new design feature is the contrast lower bumpers in Manhattan grey full-paint finish. This emphasises the Q genes and provides an eye-catching appearance. S line models benefit from full body colour bumpers with aluminium detailing and more aggressive air intakes.

Large alloy wheels ranging from 17- to 19-inch underline the car’s sporty and powerful appearance. The optional all-LED headlights and LED rear lights with dynamic indicators pick up the characteristic arrow theme of Audi SUVs. The sculptural styling of the rear lights extends into the light covers, emphasising the three-dimensional character of the rear lights.

Infotainment and connectivity

The new Audi Q2 features the latest MMI control concept. The top-end infotainment system, MMI Navigation plus (optional), features MMI touch and a large 8.3-inch monitor. The touchpad in the rotary controller with multi-touch capability recognises multiple touches of the surface (with one or two fingers), and functions such as zooming, scrolling or cursor movement. A 7-inch MMI display screen and 3.5-inch monochrome DIS come as standard.

In combination with MMI Navigation plus, Audi Virtual Cockpit is available as an option. The 12.3-inch display can be switched between classic or infotainment views and displays information such as navigation, media, telephone, on-board computer data and assistance system information.

The new Audi Q2 features Audi smartphone interface allowing customers with iOS or the Android operating system on their smartphone to integrate supported smartphone apps, mapping and media with the car.

Other technology highlights include Audi phone box with wireless charging, 705-watt Bang & Olufsen premium sound system that features 14 speakers and 5.1 surround sound, plus a head-up display system that projects key information onto a glass pane in front of the driver so there is no need to take your eyes off the road.

Customisation is an important feature on the new Audi Q2. Customers will be able to personalise the car to express their individuality and style.

Each trim has its own unique exterior and wheels, and further customisation is possible for the C-pillar blade with a choice of colours and finishes. Depending on trim, contrast or body-colour lower bumpers also further distinguish the car.

Inside, customers can choose inlays in striking colours such as red or orange to match or contrast with the exterior. The innovative LED interior lighting package includes a new illuminated inlay and provides ambient lighting around the foot well, roof module, centre console and kneepad. A range of different light colours are available, allowing the customer to change the ambience of the interior to suit taste and mood. Seats also come in a choice of upholstery material and colours to complement the exterior.

Engines and driving dynamics

The new Audi Q2 will initially be available with four engines – two petrol and two diesel. The popular 1.4 TFSI 150PS engine with cylinder on demand will be offered in both 6-speed manual and 7-speed S tronic. An entry three cylinder 1.0 TFSI 116PS engine (available later in 2016) benefits from low running costs and impressive efficiency.

The two diesel engines offered are a 1.6 TDI 116PS 6-speed manual engine and 2.0 TDI 150PS S tronic (available later in 2016). The latter is available with quattro all-wheel drive, opening up new customers to quattro. More quattro derivatives will be launched later in the model’s lifecycle.

Dynamic suspension ensures a comfortable ride and progressive steering helps the vehicle’s agility and reduces steering input required when manoeuvring and parking to bring increased comfort. Optional Audi drive select allows the driver to adjust the vehicle characteristics such as steering, engine and gearshifts (with S tronic). Five different modes are available: auto, comfort, dynamic, efficiency and individual.

Driver assistance and safety systems

The new Audi Q2 sets the benchmark in its class with numerous driver assistance systems. Audi pre-sense city is standard and can detect critical driving situations in front of the vehicle. The vehicle will provide an audible warning and can apply the brakes if an imminent collision is detected with a pedestrian or another vehicle at speeds of up to 52mph.

Other systems offered on the Q2 include Audi active lane assist, adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go, cross-traffic assist rear, Audi side assist and Audi pre-sense basic. In addition, optional parking assistant systems such as park assist and reversing camera are available.
