We are genuinely excited about the new Volkswagen Arteon, and there are a great many things to admire about it. For one thing, it looks terrific. From its multi-louvered front grille to its discreet tailgate spoiler, this fastback saloon boasts a sophisticated and streamlined design. The car’s silhouette is striking too, with its swooping roofline providing a coupé-like profile.
The Arteon features a number of eye-catching fixtures, such as lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels that are fitted as standard. Also featured is leading-edge LED lighting, including tail lights that emit distinctive yellow bars of illumination to indicate the direction in which the car is about to turn.
It’s not just about the exterior, however. A Nappa leather-upholstered cabin sets the tone for this car’s splendidly stylish interior. Front-row travellers are treated to heated, electronically adjustable and lumbar-supporting positions, and there is plenty of room in each compartment for travellers to properly enjoy each trip.
The car’s 563-litre boot space is generous too, and expands to a very useful 1,557 litres when rear seats are dropped.
Elegance and comfort are complemented by the inclusion of lots of exciting technology. An eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system is included as standard, which features an eight-speaker audio system that generates 80 watts of sound.
As well as AUX, SD, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, the Arteon features Discover Navigation, which uses 3D mapping to make each journey as expeditious as possible.
The new VW Arteon is extremely safe to travel in, and has been rated a full five stars by Euro NCAP. A wide array of driver aids feature, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, which considerably reduces the risk of low-speed collisions.
With a standard-issue 1.5-litre 150bhp petrol engine installed, the Arteon manages up to 54.3mpg, while producing CO2 emissions from 119g/km. Even more efficient is a 2.0-litre 150bhp diesel unit, which is optional with entry-level Elegance trims, and returns as much as 65.7mpg and produces emissions as low as 112g/km.
